The Peace Library: Body of Work

Peace and War by Betty Field Haley (Vertical Book)

Artist Statement: The book begins with the natural state of coexistence — with all forms at work together with natural dissonance contained within harmony. Following the greens of the "Peace" Sections, the reds of the "War" sections disrupt and distort and intrude upon the harmony of nature.

Book of Shades by Rachael Winn Yon

Artist Statement: On November 29, 1955 my young husband, Lawrence Neal Meader, gave his life for our country. Our unborn son knew his father in name only. In Book of Shades, I have addressed the finality of death whatever its cause. I wish to convey the notion that we are all shades. Whatever we do in this plane resonates forever.

Peace Train by Catherine J. Trujillo

Artist Statement: The illustrations were created by children living in San Luis Obispo, CA. The illustrators were given no directions other than to draw how they each envisioned peace. My hope was for each child to find the peace that comes naturally within, and somehow make their vision tangible — The words are by Cat Stevens, however the music I hear in my head is performed by Natalie Merchant. San Luis Obipso, CA, 2003 September
