Standards

Standards explain an authorized way of doing things. Nearly all professional societies have developed standards pertaining to processes within their areas. Then, there are several umbrella groups that accept or authorize standards produced by other societies to be national or international standards (ANSI is the U.S. national sanctioning organization and ISO is the international sanctioning group).

There are tens of thousands of standards throughout the world. The Cal Poly library receives the following complete or mostly complete standards:

  • Different kinds of ASTM standards (indicated by different letter prefixes) are grouped in volumes by industrial application. They are not listed across the volumes in the set by their number. You must consult the index to find out which volume contains the standard you are looking for.
