Information Competence and Research Fundamentals for Industrial Technology
Information Literacy and the Research Process
Information competence enables learners to master content and
extend their investigations, become more self-directed, and assume greater
control over their own learning. An information competent individual is
able to:
- Define the problem statement
- Determine the extent of information needed
- Locate and access the needed information effectively and efficiently
- Evaluate information and its sources critically
- Cite the work of others as directed by copyright laws and style manuals
- Organize, synthesize and incorporate selected information into one's
knowledge base
- Communicate information effectively to an audience
This brief overview was developed to teach undergraduate industrial technology
students essential research strategies.
