Information Literacy and the Research Process
Information competence enables learners to master content and extend their investigations, become more self-directed, and assume greater control over their own learning. An information competent individual is able to:

• Define the problem statement
• Determine the extent of information needed
• Locate and access the needed information effectively and efficiently
• Evaluate information and its sources critically
• Cite the work of others as directed by copyright laws and style manuals
• Organize, synthesize and incorporate selected information into one's knowledge base
• Communicate information effectively to an audience
